HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BABIES SUNGLASSES?

Babies and children eyes are even more fragile than their parents ones. Their crystalline lens does not play its filtering role yet. It is therefore important to protect children eyes with sunglasses as from an early age.

SUNGLASSES CONCEPT

Product managers, engineers, laboratory staff: We gather all of our optics specialists together to design those sunglasses.

To choose sunglasses for a baby or a child, 3 criteria should be considered: UV protection and sturdy lenses, flexible and sturdy frame, suitable lens category.

UV PROTECTION, STURDY LENSES

Children's eyes are even more sensitive than adult's. Their crystalline lens does not fully play its role in stopping part of the rays that may damage the cornea. Children's eyes are therefore even more exposed to UV rays. So how to best protect them?

The 1st thing to do is to check that the lenses provide full UV protection. The lens material should filter harmful UV rays (UVA and UVB) to prevent them from reaching the eye. This protection index is essential for children, whatever their age is.

With children, sunglasses can fall!. That is why you should go for polycarbonate lenses, a highly shock-resistant material.

IMPACT RESISTANT

Polycarbonate lenses, highly resistant to impact.

FLEXIBLE, STURDY FRAME

The 2nd thing to do is to choose sunglasses with a flexible and sturdy frame.

Children move around and fiddle with their glasses. A flexible and sturdy frame will last longer.

There are various types of frames available, depending on your child's age.

6 TO 18 MONTHS BABIES

From 6 to 18 months: an extra flexible frame that will adjust to the baby's face is recommended.

2 TO 6 YEARS OLD KIDS

Ages 2 to 6: A soft, flexible frame that will adjust to the face is recommended. It often comes with a strap to ensure a proper hold of the sunglasses on the nose.

KIDS OVER 7 YEARS OLD

Age 7 and over: a semi-flexible frame would be the best. The kids get bigger and the sunglasses hold better on their nose.

LENS CATEGORY

Not to be confused with the UV protection, the lens category is the index of glare protection. This number only indicates the degree of the lens tint.

For children, choose category 3 or 4 lenses.

We recommend to use the maximal category 4 lenses only for bright sunshine conditions, for example for sea or mountain conditions.

For babies, or in less intense sunshine, category 3 lenses are very appropriate.

Babies and children will tend to keep the sunglasses on their nose for longer, because the lens is not too tinted. Children commonly take off their sunglasses because they feel they are in the dark.

Choosing category 3 lenses will not alter the UV protection. The lens material will still provide protection from all harmful UV rays.

CATEGORY 3

For sunny weather, bright outside conditions. Full UV protection.

CATEGORY 4

For very sunny weather conditions, Sea and Mountain included. Very bright outside conditions. Full UV protection.
