OUTSHOCK

DECATHLON's combat sports brand offers useful suggestions for your sporting practice

There are two criteria to consider when choosing a karate gi: your height and your skill level.

YOUR SIZE

Karate Gis are unisex and are designed with a single model.

The height of the karateka determines the uniform size.

● For a child: sizes range from 100 cm to 150 cm.

● For an adult: sizes range from 160 cm to 200 cm.

DURABILITY

Because karate is a contact sport, the uniform fabric needs to be light enough for good freedom of movement.

We recommend the following fabric weights:

●     For novice children for training: a supple and lightweight woven fabric of 190 g/sqm.

●     For children competing: a sturdier ribbed fabric with a weight of 240 g/sqm.

●     For novice adults for training: a supple and lightweight ribbed fabric of 240 g/sqm.

●     For adults competing: a thick and durable weight of 370 g/sqm or higher.

In accordance with tradition, kimonos are made from cotton and have a natural tendency to shrink several centimetres during the first three washes.

This is why we recommend choosing a kimono 5 to 10 cm longer than the desired size.
